CowPunch Ponies was SO easy to work with! They were accommodating, understanding, and HONEST! These guys are the REAL DEAL.
CowPunch Ponies is a Natural Horsemanship horse training company based in Catron County, New Mexico. We have experience with Reined Cowhorses and Cutters, but also work with yearlings, colt starting, tune ups, problem horses, mules, zebras, and hold several clinics annually.
We ride in quality western saddles and start our colts in halters, moving into snaffles, using predominately leg cues with soft hands to aid and occasional verbal reinforcement. We utilize natural horsemanship and vaquero methods, influenced by Ray Hunt, Tom Dorrance, Monty Roberts, Buck Brannaman, Chad Brinlee, R.J. Cluck, and others. Our program is unique. At any given time, we do not take more than four client horses per trainer. This allows us to spend the time, patience, miles, and consistency with each horse that they need (and you are paying for!) each day, and we often give up our weekends for them as well. Of course, the actual time invested in each horse each day is completely controlled by that individual horse’s needs that day. We believe that it is this type of commitment that is crucial to the making of a solid horse, and the amount of hours we are willing to invest combined with the low numbers in our barn can be difficult to find other places.
Please send us an email, or subscribe to our newsletter on the Contact Us page to be kept abreast of our 2023 Horsemanship Clinic Series.
We train because we love it. With the understanding that every horse is different, we hold our equine-in-training to high standards and build confidence, balance, trust, and a good relationship in effort to help them discover a confidence in themselves. With training, we have found that if you take the time it takes, ultimately, it will take less time. This is why we say:

We don’t BREAK horses. We BUILD them!

At 9, our mare had potential but not near enough ‘wet saddle blankets’. She is now one hundred percent better and my [special needs] daughter didn’t have to ride exactly like them to get results! Sending another horse, SOON!
